Penn Yan Central Schools
As a result of extensive planning with the Board of Education, administrators, faculty, students, and the community – this project continued the precedence set forth in the planning of Penn Yan Elementary. The focus of King + King’s work was to enhance performance and research-based learning, as well as the health & wellness of students through strategic spaces.
As an example, the new media center created allows for large group instruction in a highly flexible, technologically advanced space that provides quiet reading areas for individual research. Subsequent additions to the existing facility, totaling approximately 75,000 square feet, include: gymnasium with associated visiting team rooms and storage; science wing; classrooms; and technology wing with loading dock.
The other major goal of this project was to renovate the existing 1962 facility to meet current code requirements. Nearly all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were replaced to optimize energy efficiency, including any required asbestos abatement. Renovations include: kitchen expansion; locker rooms expansion; band and chorus rooms relocation/expansion; main office and student support services relocation/expansion; fitness room expansion; and many other miscellaneous finish upgrades to existing spaces.
