A small team of k+k staff met up with Project Manager Jeff Pawlowski at Nascentia Health in Syracuse to better understand the installation of fiberglass z girts and exterior mineral wool insulation board. This system greatly reduces thermal bridges as compared to metal z furring to support rain screen facade systems. The reduced thermal conductivity of fiberglass allows the insulation to be more effective in slowing thermal transfer and thus, allowing for a more comfortable and efficient interior.

Insulation and girt thickness in this case is 2″. Stay tuned for more smart wall systems! We plan to use a 6″ girt on an upcoming net zero designed elementary school renovation in North Syracuse!
